Product Description

Balikesir Karakechili Burdock Bordered Rug

69.2 in x 104.3 in

It was woven 50-60 years ago by the Karakechili Nomads of Balikesir province in West Anatolia. Wool on wool yarns were used in its weaving. Typical soil colours and tones are used on the ground. Dark colours such as black and dark blue are preferred for the borders. The symbols on it are multi-coloured. Karakechili Nomads dye their wool using herbs such as turmeric, euphorbia, olive leaves, pomegranate peel, walnut shell, juniper leaves, linden and onion peel. In order to change the colour tones, they use vinegar, unriped grape juice, moss, clay and ash. This process is called mordanting. In the borders of this rug, there is the symbol of the burdock. There is also the fetter symbol. In the centre of the rug is the abundance symbol.

Due to differences in light during the photographing of the products, there may be differences in colour tones between the photograph and the actual product. Some products may have been stored in chests for many years without being used, and some products may have been used. Some parts of the products may have undergone minor repairs over the years, while some parts have not been touched in order not to spoil the originality. We have tried to reflect such situations as much as possible in the pictures. Please pay attention to these small details when purchasing your product.
