About us
I am the child of an architect father with a keen eye for art. In the images I remember from my childhood in Moda, Istanbul, my father used to bring carpets and rugs from various regions of Anatolia as gifts to his architect and engineer colleagues from abroad. He would describe the patterns and symbols as if he were describing a Picasso or Van Gogh painting.
But this did not interest me at all. I had more important things to do, like playing water polo.
When I moved to Bodrum in West Anatolia when I was 44 years old, I started playing sports only for myself and made a living restoring old houses. This is when my interest in authentic carpets and rugs began.
While restoring a village house in Alaçam Village of Milas, neighboring Bodrum, I noticed the discarded rugs in the unused mosque of the village.
The fact that the colors of the rugs from a mosque that had not been used for at least 70-80 years were so vivid and bright attracted my attention and everything my father told me about carpets and rugs, which I had always ignored as a child, went through my head in 5 seconds.
As I read, I met a magnificent world that gradually drew me in. At the same time, I traveled to the cities and villages of the Central Anatolia Region, where the Anatolian Seljuk State ruled, especially the villages of Milas.
I was 45 years old when I realized that I had grown up on the precious Central Anatolian Sivas Prison carpet in two of my childhood paintings.
The point I finally arrived at was this: In a vast geography and for generations, people have told their loves, happiness, fears and wishes by weaving carpets and rugs, and they still do.
This showed me that the world's oldest art form, which has survived from the Scythian period (8th century BC/3rd century BC), the ancestors of the Huns, to the present day with the same knotting technique (the Turkish “Gördes” knot), belongs to us, the Turks. By realizing this information, I had found my second profession that I was passionate about. We established our team related to this profession and started to work.
