West Anatolia Milas Carpet with Double Roses

It was woven 80-90 years ago using wool yarns in the Milas region of West Anatolia. It is one of the rare Milas Double Roses carpets. Since the pattern is difficult to weave, a Milas carpet with this pattern has not been woven for at least 70 years. The color yellow dominates the ground of the carpet and brown, red, white, white, green colors and shades are used. The yarns are dyed with typical plants of the Milas region. Yellow color was obtained from apricot and peach leaves, dark green from mint, and black from wool kept in mud for a week. The red, brown and yellow tones obtained especially from Pyrenean grass date back to the ancient Carian period. Two different colors were used in the warp of the carpet. The fringes on one side were left as they were the day they were woven, not braided. Milas Carpets are a rich part of Turkish carpet art. They are aesthetic works of art recognized all over the world and used in home decorations. Milas carpets were taken under protection with Geographical Indication in 1997. Due to differences in light during the photographing of the products, there may be differences in color tones between the photograph and the actual product. Some products may have been stored in chests for many years without being used, while others may have been used. Some parts of the products may have undergone minor repairs over the years, while some parts have not been touched in order not to disturb the originality. These situations are shown in the pictures
