Central Anatolia Konya Ladik Hand-Woven Carpet
38.9 in X 67.7 in
It is a prayer rug woven with Turkish knot and colored with root dye using cotton and wool yarns for 40-50 years in the Ladik neighborhood of Konya Sarayonu District in the Central Anatolia Region.Orange, green and blue colors dominate.Since the green color is made of mud, it has been corroded over time. For this reason, the green colored places have collapsed and the patterns on it look like a relief. The cresset hangs down from the mihrab side of the carpet. The cresset has a great importance both in Islam and Christianity. The symbol of the cresset is used in a mihrab and together with the symbol of the pitcher as in this carpet. When these three symbols are combined, it symbolizes heaven. On the other side of the carpet, there are 3 motifs called ball tulip, reverse tulip or Ladik rose in the region. In the border part of the carpet, there are ram horns symbolizing abundance and strength. Among the ram's horns are eight-pointed Seljuk stars symbolising happiness. Each corner of this star symbolises a virtue. These are mercy, compassion, patience, truthfulness, keeping secrets, loyalty, knowing one's own poverty and helplessness, generosity and gratitude to God.
