Handwoven Balikesir Primitive Motif Kilim
117 cm x 162 cm /3'10" x 5'4"
This distinctive handwoven kilim originates from the Balikesir region of Western Anatolia and dates back approximately 20–30 years. Its simple yet striking design reflects the characteristic features of Balıkesir weaving. The sandy beige field is framed with a deep red border, adorned with primitive motifs. The symbolic elements at the centre are believed to represent protection and abundance.
Woven entirely by hand using natural wool yarns, this piece has been dyed with traditional plant-based dyes. The colours have softened over time, giving the kilim a warm and mellow appearance. With its minimalist and symmetrical layout, it easily complements both modern and rustic interiors. Its dimensions make it ideal for living rooms, entrance halls, or even as a decorative wall hanging.
The photographs aim to represent the colours of the rug as accurately as possible, though minor differences may occur due to lighting conditions. Some areas may have been repaired over the years, while others have been intentionally left in their original state to preserve authenticity.
