Handwoven Bodrum Red Crane Kilim
150 cm x 190 cm / 4′11″ × 6′3″
This striking handwoven kilim is a rare example of the rich weaving heritage unique to the Bodrum region in Western Anatolia. Known locally as the "Turnalı" kilim, its central design features a row of stylised turna (crane) birds, flying in formation. In Turkish culture, the crane symbolises the nomadic spirit, loyalty, and the soulful journey through life.
In the local dialect, such kilims are also referred to as “Aynalı Kilim” (Mirrored Kilim), owing to the symmetrical placement of motifs that appear to reflect one another. The surrounding “finger border” is a distinct and characteristic feature of Bodrum kilims, adding rhythm and visual structure to the overall composition.
Woven entirely by hand on traditional looms using natural wool yarns, this kilim is dyed with plant-based pigments, lending it warm, earthy tones and an authentic finish. A blend of cultural meaning and visual charm, it is well-suited for living rooms, lounges, and bedrooms.
We have done our best to capture the true colours of the piece in the photographs. However, minor tonal differences may appear due to lighting conditions. Small repairs may have been carried out over time, or some areas intentionally preserved in their original state to retain authenticity.
