Handwoven Sivas Kangal Rug – Medallion Design
245 cm x 345 cm / 8′0″ x 11′4″
This striking Sivas Kangal rug represents one of Anatolia’s finest handweaving traditions, with an estimated age of 70–80 years. Entirely handwoven using high-quality wool yarns spun by hand, it features a wool-on-wool structure. With a tight knot density of approximately 50x50 knots per dm², the rug is exceptionally durable, dense, and long-lasting. Its large size makes it ideal for spacious living rooms and open-plan interiors.
At the heart of the rug lies a large-scale symmetrical medallion, reflecting both the aesthetic balance and symbolic depth of traditional Turkish carpet design. The red tones used in the background and motifs have naturally aged over time, with a noticeable colour shift toward one end of the rug. This effect is known as “abrash” and results from dye variations in naturally dyed wool prepared in separate batches. Rather than being a flaw, this characteristic highlights the handmade nature and living history of the piece.
This large, high-quality rug is rich in character and offers both decorative and cultural value. It is an ideal choice for collectors, heritage-inspired interiors, or gallery-style settings.
Please note: colours may vary slightly due to lighting during photography. We aim to reflect all details of the rug as accurately as possible. We recommend reviewing the product images carefully before purchase.
